About us

Project aims to identify the key challenges that educational systems face in areas were the determination of the Best Interest of the Child is a prerequisite, and prepare methods, tools and processes to support evidence-based policy making supporting school leaders, teachers and policymakers. Some of the key challenges to the BIC are social inequality and persistent poverty while lack of training and ignorance of the concept persist in a number of European societies.

The primary Target Groups are:

  • Policy makers
  • Head teachers

Additional target groups are:

  • Primary and Secondary Education teachers
  • Local Community Groups and Authorities
  • Civil Society Organizations (such as Parents Associations)

The project is expected to particular focus on two important stakeholders in the public education provision and training community: Thousands of Policy makers at local, national and European Level: The partners will present the project and training to policy makers and other relevant authorities as a demonstration of an effective way of delivering wide adult training initiatives that could potentially have an overall positive social impact. To instrument that, the partners will invite policy makers and other relevant authorities to the SeBI pilot testing and implementation events while targeted dissemination activities will be directed through policy makers at all levels. Additionally, the partners will share with them the project outcomes. Thousands of Head teachers and educators: the project partners have a preeminent position in the educational community dealing with the promotion of training, pedagogy, instructional design, adult training and e-learning. Therefore, the SeBI will provide a pioneer model of action to those professional areas by disseminating and promoting the project’s outcomes. The main beneficiaries of the project beyond the educators and decision makers are the children that are disadvantaged and they will have eventually their best interests observed. SeBI project will explore useful paradigms around the concept of the Best Interest of the Child such as the model developed by Kalverboer and Zijlstra which consists of 14 child-rearing conditions that must be of sufficiently high quality in order to enable children to experience a good childhood and to protect their growth. These conditions are grouped under broader categories such as: Physical well-being, care and upbringing, the societal present and the societal future18. All these represent the socio-cultural settings in which children grow.
